A class, from session start to payroll

The lecturer opens the session
Attendance is not open all day. The lecturer starts a session for a specific class from their control panel and sets how long the check-in window stays open.

The student checks in by face
The student completes an interactive face verification on their own device. A static photograph does not satisfy the check.

Location is verified
The check-in is accepted only from inside the location zone defined for that classroom block, so a student cannot mark attendance from the canteen or from home.

The session closes
When the timer expires the window shuts. Late arrivals are handled by the lecturer as an explicit action rather than by leaving the window open.

The same attendance record feeds academic reporting for students and, for staff check-ins, drives absence deduction and leave balances in payroll.

- How does face-verified attendance stop proxies?
- It does not rely on the face alone. Three checks have to pass together: interactive face verification rather than a static photograph, a location zone limited to the classroom block, and a session window the lecturer opens and closes. Marking a friend present fails at least one of them.
- Can a student check in from outside the classroom?
- No. Location verification zones restrict check-in to the defined classroom block, so a check-in from the canteen, the hostel or home is rejected.
- Does the lecturer control when attendance is open?
- Yes. Attendance is not open all day. The lecturer starts a session for a specific class and sets how long the window stays open; when the timer expires it closes. Late arrivals are handled as an explicit action by the lecturer.
- Is biometric attendance data covered by the DPDP Act?
- Facial recognition data is personal data and is treated as such: it is processed on behalf of the subscribing institution, held under tenant-level isolation, encrypted at rest and in transit, and subject to the access, correction and erasure rights the DPDP Act 2023 provides. The institution remains the party that decides to use it.
- Does staff attendance feed payroll?
- Yes — that is the point of keeping them in one system. Staff face check-ins drive absence deduction and leave balance tracking in the payroll module directly, instead of being re-keyed into a salary sheet each month.
